Ludwina Saffer, née Bertoldi, moved from the South Tyrol to Munich in 1923, and settled in the Giesing district, laying the foundations for a very promising company. Since then, the name of Saffer has grown in importance and renown in the wine trade. In 1924, her son, Anton Saffer, took over his mother's business activities, turning the company over 36 years into a respected specialist in South Tyrolean products.
In 1958, Anton Saffer handed over the management of the firm to his son, Paul. The course was set for expansion: in the years that followed, Paul Saffer steadily expanded the range of wines available. As the company became more successful, the capacity of the company's head office in Giesing was soon exhausted. Today, the modern administration and warehouse building in East Munich allows the business to be run efficiently according to the latest standards of business management and the bottled wines to be stored in optimum conditions.
In 1996, Andreas Saffer took over the running of the company from his father. His sound training paved the way for his arrival in the company and has enabled him to continue the family tradition successfully. The entire range has since been consistently expanded and the sales structure focused on a more national basis. In addition, a clear distinction has been made between the Retail and Specialist/Catering business divisions.
